Measure the basket—not the machine label alone
A nominal 58mm portafilter family does not guarantee a 58mm, 58.3mm, 58.4mm or 58.5mm tamper will fit every basket. The useful measurement is the basket’s internal diameter at the depth where the base actually travels. A close base can improve coverage; an oversized base can bind as the basket narrows.

How hard should I tamp espresso?
